SSA3000X File Types

October 25, 2017

The SSA3000X can save files in a number of formats that can be useful for saving/recalling configurations, correction and limits, as well as raw trace data.

Those include:

State files (*.STA file extension): These files can be used to save and recall the instrument configuration. They are saved in binary format, which is designed to be used by SSA3X instruments, not read by humans.

Trace files (*.TRC file extension): These files store the active (visible) trace data and scaling factors that were in place when the data was saved. They are saved in binary format, which is designed to be used by SSA3X instruments, not read by humans.

NOTE: When you first recall trace files, the instrument will adjust the display parameters (horizontal and vertical scaling, for example) to match the settings used during data collection. The trace data will not change, even if you adjust the parameters.

Correction files (*.COR file extension): These files store the data used to mathematically adjust the displayed input signal based on external factors (Cable loss, Amplifier/Antenna gain, etc..). They are saved in ASCII format, which can be read by humans.

Comma Separated Variable (*.CSV file extension): These files store instrument configuration (scaling, units, etc..) and raw data (amplitude and frequency values) in ASCII format, commonly viewed in spreadsheet programs like Microsoft® Excel®. This file type can be read by humans.

Limit files (*.LIM file extension): These files store the line or point data used to configure and display lines used for visual indication of a user-defined limit. This is a binary file intended for use with SSA3X instruments and is not readable by humans.

Picture files (Either *.JPG or *.BMP file extensions): These files capture the display of the instrument (screenshot) as an image file. All of the details of the display are captured exactly. What you see on the display is in the file. These are readable using image programs like Microsoft® Paint®.
